Evidently, XpostFacto sees Panther on the ATA as a valid startup disc
and I do get to the grey splash screen. During one of my tries I did
get an error message-I think about an error in making a connection,...snip

Try starting in verbose mode and write down the last few lines before the
freeze. Then we can figure out what's up.

When I tried to install Panther on my 9500 I had to use XPF 3.10 as 3.11
would cause freezes. After the install I could upgrade. I'm now up to 3.15.
I start with throttle at 4 and l2 cache off.

Hi John and all-

I had used XpostFacto 3.11 to install and then upgraded to 3.15 because I checked for upgrades after I installed. Any way, here are the only lines that came up. I had checked Verbose mode startup in 3.15 but I got the usual splash screen, so I did a restart, got the gray splash screen and after a while this message came up:

Standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
vm_page_bootstrap:253431 free pages
mig_table_max_displ=68
TOKit Component Version 7.0:
Wed Sep 24 15:43:30 PDT 2003; root (rcbuilder):RELEASE_PPC/lokit/RELEASE

I hope that you can do something with this. Thanks again John, Will and Nancy for your help. Trying the above first then I'll move on to other things. The drive that I have Panther installed on is an 80 GB ATA partitioned into 4 parts. Unfortunately there's too much info to back up, so erasing the drive would have to be a last ditch desperation move.
