Hmmm. I find that OSX 10.3 Panther on my G4 350mHz, boots _much_ faster than OS 9.2.1 ever did.

Messing around with my fathers B&W G3 450, as I am in process of shifting him to OSX and I would say that classic boots quicker under X as well than booting from OS9 - and I haven't turned off many OS9 extns yet either
