2) Set your System to "never" for all sleep functions in the Energy Saver control panel.
These two will solidify almost any flakey System so that disk corruption will hopefully be a thing you never deal with again.
Allow me to second or third the Never Sleep recommendation. I have a 7600 G4/400 server with 2x120GB HDs in it running 10.3.8 which has been running for 6 months straight and it does not tolerate CPU sleep at all.
Zero problems with just the monitor and disks sleeping, though.
