And I have found just the opposite to be true. The Acard 6280M in my
7500 would cause iTunes to stutter often, and BADLY on the bigger
files. Everytime I booted in OS 9.2.2, I would get a message about some
conflict with my OS 9 drive popping up every 15 seconds or so. I
swapped in my Tempo Trio; problems went away.
Has Bill checked the Sonnet website for any firmware updates?

You might try the equivalent Acard ATA-133 card (6280M). The Sonnet
cards tend to have more compatibility problems than the Acards. The
Sonnet cards seem to do something funny with their firmware that
makes them look like two separate cards in the Device List.
