When you say theres no serial port support in OS X, you must mean for
MIDI right? Because I can use my external 56k Modem still, even in
Tiger (with a mild hack). It's using the modem port which I believe is
serial?

You need a USB MIDI converter, pretty much... there's no serial port
support in OS X.
