Bishop James Heiser to Discuss Future of Humanity at Mars Society Convention
The Rt. Rev. James Heiser (M.Div., S.T.M.), Diocesan Bishop of the Evangelical
Lutheran Diocese of North America, will give a talk about space exploration and
humanity's destiny beyond the Earth at the 15th Annual International Mars
Society Convention in Pasadena, California, August 3-5, 2012.
Rev. Heiser is a member of the Mars Society's Board of Directors and Steering
Committee, as well as a founding member of the organization. In addition, he
is the author of two volumes of essays on spiritual and theological issues
related to space exploration and settlement: A Shining City on a Higher Hill
(2006) and Civilization and the New Frontier (2010).
Having served as a parish pastor in central Texas since 1998, Rev. Heiser was
called in 2006 to serve as Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North
America. He is also Dean of Missions of the Augustana Ministerium and is the
President of the Center for the Study of Lutheran Orthodoxy. He earned his
Bachelor's degree in Political Science at George Washington University and a
Master’s of Divinity and Master’s of Sacred Theology from Concordia Theological
Seminary.

Online registration for the Mars Society convention is now available. Rooms at
the Pasadena Sheraton (located near the Pasadena Convention Center) are
available (but limited) at a specially-discounted rate of $99/night for a
single or double occupancy for convention attendees by calling the hotel at
Tel. 629-449-4000 or by visiting the hotel’s web site. There is also a new
housing option for convention attendees at the William Carey International
