Justin, It'll take more than a plan, it's takes knowledge. Now, I promise, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but if you are seriously considering taking over the web server, you REALLY need to know what is going on: on your website, database, current exploits for your web server, mail server, etc, etc etc.
So, after doing a quick scan of the site, here is what I found: BAD - shopping cart - your shopping cart isn't being handwritten by the guy, he's bought it. It's called Dansie shopping cart. It cost the guy at most, $150 one time purchase. You should not have paid for this more than once. BAD - web hosting - not really knowing your email structure it is hard for me to comment. However, your webhosting is going through a business called markettrends.net. Their hosting plans are here: http://www.marketrends.net/serviceplans.html . As you can see, not a one of them is anywhere near $50 a month. BAD - database - Coldfusion isn't a database, it's a server side language. You really need to know this if you want to consider taking this over. (and I mean know it well.) The last thing you need is to be fully responsible for a website unprepared. I write CF and can answer questions that you may have. GOOD - Finally! A break! K, the good news is that somebody named Randy Giboney has administrative rights to the domain and can transfer the domain anywhere and do anything they want with it. I'm hoping that is you or kin of yours. http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=westernbotanicals.c om mj/v -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Webot Graphics Sent: Monday, June 11, 2007 10:00 AM To: UPHPU Discussion Subject: Re: [UPHPU] How to do...? > I'll offer an opinion: the whole thing. Sorry to be blunt, but the > site's pretty hard to look at. This is the situation I am in (at least from my stand point). When I first came to this company (almost 4 years ago) I didn't know enough about the web to make a decent web page. I helped translate the site into spanish and it was refitted to look like it does now. The guy that designed the website (a very good programmer: his site www.icimedia.com) also hosts the site and our emails. He charges us $50 a month for hosting and 'minor changes' which he does none (i do most of it, because when we want something changed he usually says it doesn't fall in minor and charges us for it). He also charges us something like $150 dollars a year for the shopping cart (which is a joke. if you want a good laugh, add something to the cart on our page). The guy is hard to get a hold of to boot. I have control to change the pages, but the database is done with cold fusion and I have only worked with mysql, and the shopping cart is, well, totally separate. I think I could host the page on a company computer. I have practice with www.forodeherbales.com and just recently www.poderherbal.com, but I haven't dealt with email. I don't know who technically owns the dns, and site registration, so I can't start asking the guy questions unless I am ready to leave. The bad thing is that the boss here doesn't like change. I want to do something, but I don't have a plan yet.
