I have no problem with a menu but my thoughts are that 'button' type
images should be used for single 'look-at-me' type focal points - not
menus where you'll show the button several times.
If I were redesigning the site, I'd start with getting rid of most of
the images, and finding colors and layouts that work well together.
Once you've got a color scheme / layout that works for you, add images
for emphasis.
for what its worth,

What is the groups opinions about menus?
I usually don't use menus on websites, but what are user preferences?
The menus on the current site (www.westernbotanicals.com) seem very
cluttered to me (besides that they don't work well in Safari).
I am thinking about having three buttons across the top, called
"Products", "Information", and "About us." With a search box on the
right. Each of these pages would then further break down the subject
in the content of the page.
