My vote is for #2. I feel like #1 would cause confusion down the road as people look in SVN for the uPortal code. While there may be a little more initial confusion of /up2 just disappearing I believe that adequate notification and documentation can solve that problem.

Anyone on the dev list is welcome to vote on this and feel free to include your argument for/against either option. I'll recap the thread at the end of the week and move on to determining when the update will happen.
