I can see Jason's point, but I think there may be a risk if you remove the
trunk and branches. I am not very knowledgeable of svn yet, but if it works
like cvs in this respect, someone with custom modifications could do an
update against up2 and having their entire project deleted except for the
new readme file. If up2 is still there but frozen, someone could continue
updating against it and think that nothing had changed. It could take a
while to realize that up2 had been frozen.

Bottom line is I think it would be better to remove up2. That way, a person
would know immediately that something had changed when an update is
attempted.

-1 for #2. For me the question is more what is the implied contract  
behind a tag. In the same way that "cool URIs don't change" I don't  
think tags once created should change either.

+1 for #1 with the suggestion that we remove the trunk & all branches  
in the up2/ tree and replace it with a README file explaining that the  
recent source has moved and the existing tags are only there for  
archival purposes, in addition to locking the tree for commits.
