The flexibility of assigning fragment component permissions to groups sounds
valuable.

Jen was talking about work on this on Unicon's cooperative support call
yesterday and I have been thinking about editable attributes on fragment
components such as tabs, columns, portlets. These attributes are actually
permissions but they aren't managed in the permission manager. The current
interface allows you to set these permissions globally for all users of a
fragment. Now that we have rethought the uPortal permission manager and made
it more approachable, it seems to me that it might be useful to think of these
permission attributes in the context of permission manger. When I look at it
that way, it seems immediately clear that the admin should be able to assign
these permissions by group rather than just globally across all users of a
fragment. For example, group student can remove this portlet but group staff
cannot. Perhaps, the permissions could even be administered via the permission
manager rather than as another layout editing feature. I suppose this wo

have some serious implications inside DLM that might be too big for now. Do
people think this is a good future direction as DLM itself is rearchitected?
