So this library is the basis for JSR-310 (the new date/time API for JDK8) and the primary author is the spec lead for the JSR. There is even a side project that provides Hibernate bindings so we can use these types in our persistent beans and a quick search makes it appear that they can be used with @RequestParameter in Spring MVC controllers.

That's very good thinking. I suspect it might make a bigger impact there, even, than in the portal events tech.
