Andrew that would be fantastic. I think we have a good plan.
Once you are done we can switch respondr over to be the default profile
in uP 4.1. So for everyone's reference, you can access any of the
uPortal profiles in 4.1 using the following (note 4.1 has a new profile
called 'universality' to allow you to select it):

I like Drew's idea in that pull request to suppress at the structure
transform rather than theme transform layer so as to not kick off
rendering portlets that won't be included in the page.
I'd like to see this resolved so absent objections I'll set about
implementing that solution and proffering a pull request for it.
