Hi Jodie,

Welcome to the community!

This improvement looks good. So you have a +1 from me.

A couple of points to consider:

1) bootstrap-calendar may not be suitable for use in normal window state. I would like to see improvements to normal window state a.k.a dashboard (and minimized mode too). I'm thinking it should just be a list without the widget, perhaps there could be buttons too.

I'm not sure how to build an intuitive way to switch window states though. ... with interactive portlets its common to switch to maximized almost as soon at clicking anything in the dashboard UI. However with informational portlets like this, I think one would like to be able to at least view the full details of th event without being forced to maximized. Perhaps in this case we just have an explicit "view maximized" button? or just rely on the chome controls.

Obviously this will not be an issue for folks using the new favorites portlet.

2) I would like to see support of placement in a region. Unfortunately there is no such "header-top-region" window state so this has to be implemented as a separate portlet or switchable using a portlet preference for example.

Thanks,
Anthony.

Hi everyone,

I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Jodie Muramoto, new UI/UX developer at
Unicon. I assist with front-end skinning and development for uPortal. In
the last few months, I’ve been ramping up on the solution architecture
of uPortal, and I’m very excited to be working with such a robust and
powerful open-source project, along with a community who is engaged and
passionate about moving uPortal forward.

I will be working on the UI design for a couple the calendar portlet,
and I would like to propose some changes and get feedback from you.
Perhaps some of you have already implemented some changes with your
solutions, or would like to help with the changes. Either way, I’m eager
to hear from you.

Below is the calendar portlet as it is today:

And this is an idea I have to improving the calendar portlet:

I found Calendar Bootstrap
<https://github.com/Serhioromano/bootstrap-calendar> (open-source
Bootstrap/jQuery library, registered under the MIT license), which
simply takes JSON data and parses it into a calendar view. This would
require some minor JavaScript/JSON changes, along with integrating
Bootstrap and jQuery into the portlet. There is also a Bootstrap2
version that could fit into Universality and accommodate more of the
supported browsers (including IE7).

Have any of you implemented a different version of the calendar portlet?
If so, would you mind sharing how/what you did? Or do any of you have
any suggestions or feedback?

Thanks for your time! Cheers,
