Glad to hear you got this working! > I finally tracked it down by calling /bin/sh instead of init, starting an > strace on pid 1 in a second console and starting init by hand. > This was way too much effort for such a simple problem, but at least I > found it. I think it's important to distinguish here between a simple *problem* vs. a simple *fix*. There's nothing simple about the problem of having key configuration files missing from your filesystem. Since the issue was with /etc/resolv.conf, it's worth pointing out that Ubuntu recently (== in the 12.04 timeframe) transitioned to using resolvconf for managing this file. It's possible there was a bug in how you generated your ltsp client rootfs that left resolvconf unconfigured or otherwise broken. Or it's possible there was a bug in the upgrade in your particular environment. If you determine that this is the case, we would certainly like to know about it. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world.
