In Java, India (Sikkim) and China also cultivated.
The fruits and seeds are used as spice (as a substitute for cardamom). The
inner parts of the false stems and the young shoots are eaten raw as
vegetables. The young inflorescences and the unripe fruits are eaten cooked
with rice. The plant also serves medicinal purposes.
