Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa, more commonly known as Marty
Natalegawa, (born March 22, 1963) is an Indonesian diplomat and
currently serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He served as
Indonesia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from
September 5, 2007 until his latest appointment and has also served as
the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and as a spokesman for
the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Education
Natalegawa obtained a Doctor of Philosophy at the Australian National
University in 1993; a Master of Philosophy at Corpus Christi College,
University of Cambridge in 1985; and a BSc at the London School of
Economics and Political Science in 1984. He also attended the
Ellesmere College and Concord College in the United Kingdom from 1976
to 1981.[1]

Early life and career
Marty, whose full name is Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa, is
the youngest son of Sonson Natalegawa, who was a former director of a
state-owned bank. He was born in in Bandung, West Java.

Prior to becoming Permanent Representative to the United Nations on
September 5, 2007, he was sworn in by President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono as the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom on
November 11, 2005.[2][3]

Before his assignment to be Indonesian Ambassador to the United
Kingdom, he was the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and as the Director General for ASEAN Cooperation in
the Department of Foreign Affairs.

He has also worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Indonesia where he came into office in 1986. There, he
worked in its Research and Development division.[1]

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed him Minister
of Foreign Affairs on October 21, 2009.[4]

Speaker

Natalegawa is also a prominent speaker in various societies. He has
addressed the University of Oxford Asia-Pacific Society.[5]

He was also a speaker for the University of Essex Malaysian
Society.[6] and at the University of Essex[7] regarding South-East
Asia and its Regional Power.

Natalegawa was also the speaker in the London Metropolitan University
regarding Indonesia's increasing international openness.[8]

He has also given a speech and was the speaker at the Cambridge
University Asia Law and Business Association (CUALA) at Selwyn
College, University of Cambridge.[9]

Family life
Natalegawa is married to the Thai-born Sranya Bamrungphong,[10] and
has three children; Annisa, Anantha and Andreyka.
