I think the default is still libusb-0.1 and there is no option to use libusb-1.0 as of now. But if you are using libftdi-1.0 to replace libftdi, then you are indirectly using libusb-1.0. You get better performance with libusb-1.0 and libftdi-1.0 if the code is re-written to take advantage of the asynchronous API provided by libusb-1.0 and libftdi-1.0.
