+1 on this one. I've been doing USB since 1996, and there's no other way to make progress. (I had one project without any way to capture the traces, ostensibly done for security, and things weren't working. I finally broke down and used a digital scope, then wrote scripts to recover the USB data and print it out for me -- faster than trying to fuss around in the dark.)
