I feel for you Ralph. My general solution is that it is time for my wife to get a new computer - ie pass on my old one. Pain in the neck and so on, but it doesn’t happen too often. I don’t know how old yours is, but I usually get 5-6 years out of a Mac laptop, and that means my $$$/yr stays in just in the painful range, and I keep doing it (3x now). So for me it is the cost of my hobby or a cost of doing business. Sorry to say, but this has been going on for a while - since I bought my first 286 and MacPlus.
