Rob,

Have you tried placing your images in a group, with the "backgroundBehavior" property set to true?
This should simulate Hypercard/Supercard backgrounds, where the group is shared across multiple cards. That way you can have native image objects, but only one copy of each inside of the shared group.

I'm still groping to find that better way.� The basic hang up I'm
finding is images displayed as icons don't look [different borders)
or behave the same as native images, and to duplicate the native
image look on multiple cards requires multiple copies of the same
image.
