Good question - I tested this on XP SP2 running Rev 2.8.1 with Excel 2002 and it worked fine; however when I try the same thing with Rev 2.9 RC4, it doesn't work. I also get different lengths when checking the clipboardData["text"]. So something definitely changed between the two versions.
