Either way, the menus are perfectly white for me... I'm using 10.5.2 with the latest updates.
Stephen, no, not font smoothing. Try this. Open up a Finder window and place it directly under a menu item in the menu bar. Then click on the menu item and the subsequent drop down menu is somewhat transparent and blurred with the Finder window below. I just wanted to be able to turn this effect off.
