"Are you unhappy that you aren't allowed to go
out an photocopy the latest #1 best seller?"

Not really as my experience is that best-sellers are rarely worth reading :)

Seriously, I have some books that are extremely precious to me (such as my
Microbiblion 1650) which I have had professionally copied for my use.

And this is where the distinction lies:

Copying Music, best-sellers, videos and so on for profit is piracy; but making
a backup copy for one's own use should not be. If I want to make a photo-copy
of a Tom Clancy novel (Yuck!) that I own, and solely for my backup purposes why
shouldn't I? If I make multiple copies for Uncle Tom Cobbley and all that is a
whole different shinty match (to Scotticize and American saying). Luckily there
are no termites in Bulgaria, although our cat recently ate most of a
non-back-upped cookery book; now scouring the bookshops for another copy -
bl**dy silly really,should have made a backup copy: Q.E.D.

My hair is not as long as Richard Stallman's, but I do sympathise with him to a
certain extent!
