Malte, DiskWarrior 4 is able to read from crashed disks in handling them as read-only devices. Saved me in twice different occasions, in exactly the same situation you describe in recovering/backuping 100% of the crashed internal 2.5 HD of two old Macs.
It's just long to do the work 3 or 4 hours for 300 Go or so. Price is around 100 US $.
