I've seen this problem when I have renamed the Revolution.app application file to something like Revoution (2).app. Did you do this by chance?

Thanks for your advice and quick response.
Yes, the downloaded application was named "Revolution Dreamcard", I changed this to "Revolution" and can now save a standalone OSX app
