This isn't a religious issue. Humans are humans, and they don't read manuals on either platform.
The critical element at play here is that -- before Sony's abuse of the public trust -- users had no reason to expect that merely inserting a MUSIC CD would install software.

A user here requested info on auto-run just last week, and the week before we had a rather lengthy discussion of the implications of auto-run for developers of portable apps.
If the facts are inconvenient for Sony and Microsoft, don't shoot the messenger, take it up with Sony and Microsoft.
But then again, you do enjoy it when you insert a new CD and you're prompted with an installation dialog instead of having to go find the installer in the CD manually arent you?
