Hey all, Here is something I sniffed out on the MacOSRumours.com (sorry rumors, US Spelling):
------ Recently, someone sent the following URL to the HyperCard mailing list: http://www.macplus.net/Actu/0901/28/mini.shtml There they say that Apple was apparently working on carbonizing HyperCard and that it is expected to be finished in October. If this is really true, this would be great news for a lot of the remaining HyperCard users. Apparently Renault has a huge system that relies on HyperCard to do their spare parts, which may be a reason why this has leaked via France. Can you perhaps find out anything about the amount of truth in this rumor? Here's a Babelfish-translated version of that URL.... Very interesting indeed. Vague at best, but -- combined with the persitent reports from elsewhere of a small team working in Cupertino to adapt HyperCard to suit modern needs like OS X compatibility and Web/QuickTime/Flash-export -- worth considering. Senior Apple contacts have repeatedly been able to confirm that Apple does intend to make use of its HyperCard intellectual property (code, concepts, etc.) in future Apple-branded multimedia authoring application(s), but have yet to deliver much in the way of details. Perhaps what we should be expecting is not a carbonized HyperCard - but rather a new Apple authoring app with HyperCard-like functionality and support for the HC authoring language? We'll be watching this one closely....if you've got HyperCard dirt, fire away! ------ Anyone else heard rumors (rumours)? I can't imagine it would touch Revolution, particularly the breadth of platforms Rev runs on... and Transcript is *really* miles (kilometers) in front of HyperTalk... Anyway you can't believe everything you hear/read, particularly WRT Apple releases... I can imagine if it is true that the Apple will bring out a limited extension to HyperTalk and probably stimulate the whole market, helping RunRev jump up a few pegs with a strong new user base wanting 'more power' or 'more cross-platform tools' or 'more features'. I'm sure Apple will bring out a slick interface, probably something called iTalk and looking like iTunes/iMove etc. PS Does anyone know where I can find documentation on xTalk? I've searched the web -- Google etc -- but not much turns up except some religious group with the X I guess signifying the Cross... any clues? I'm trying to find the origins of these languages and any help would be greatly appreciated. Chow for now, M@ Matt Denton
