I have heard the rumors too, and unfortunately I'm rather skeptical.
However, if it does prove to be true it can only be a good thing for us: no
matter what Apple do they won't come close to Revolution, but it will make
people more interested in the whole area.

"x" just stands for card - simply because you can insert "Hyper", "Super",
"Meta", etc. into its place.  There is an xTalk mailing list on Yahoo that
discusses language additions, though its fairly low traffic.  We moved away
from this naming convention because we felt the next generation features of
Transcript should be marketed for what they are: something new and much more
powerful.
