Hello Nathan, please excuse, I should have mentioned that I will be using 
Tomcat as the container. I don't recollect Tomcat having any such features? I'm 
probably wrong on this one too. But, if DBCP is built into IBatis then I will 
go with that as the less I have to configure and futz-around-with the better.

DBCP from apache is perfectly fine for a DB connection pool.  In fact any
production pool will work with ibatis.  I cannot think of an application
server which does not have its own connection pool implementation.  Most are
very configurable and will work for you.
