Unfortunately I have not been able to find a pattern for this behaviour. All I can say is that from time to time this happens. Usually closing the curve and breaking it open again fixes it. The problem I had today, however did not go away. I had to re-make the curve from scratch. (Not very difficult, but somewhat annoying)
