Then opening the wire property of the recatangle and selecting 1024,
and highest shading etc. And because I want this as reference for
modelling I force visibility to about 50%.
If someone can figure out what I want here and has the answer I'
very much appreciate it. Just the page number in the Manual would be a help.

Hi Neil,
I can't really help here, the only thing I can think of is that Real
tends to 'forget' the OGL bitmaps it calculated, or tends to fall
down to a lower resolution.
I usually keep 'update texures' off because it slows RS down to a
crawl, and occasionally turn it on, wait until it's ready and then
turn it off again. And sometimes I switch between different OGL
texture resolutions to trigger the process. Maybe that's a workaround for you.
It has to be said that the OGL is better than before, procedural
materials and even scope materials are evaluated better, but there
still are a few quirks...
