Hi Frank,

The main issues with toon rendering as I see it .... outline and flat or stepped colour rather than continuous gradation.

These are all handled within RS as it stands with no need for plug-in.

The outline option is available in all render modes, not just black and white.

The issue of working lines rendering within SDS objects requires the object to have an identifier assigned to it ... or to use edge detect. Identifiers can be handled by creating a vsl material with the sole property of an identifier with a whole constant value ...1,2.3. etc.

Outline thickness can be changed by adding a new line to the default (or other) rendering option and the properties of that line can be changed ... such as colour and thickess. It is also possible to change outline thickness by distance from the "camera".

The flatness of colouring is a material addition. Either use the default "unshaded" or there is a custom lighting one that you can give boolean type stepped values to. In fact you can probably do this to any "colour" material.

Subject: Re: comic style and rendering question

Dear rs friends, I am looking for an plugin or more info about the theme "outline rendering", "comic style" and more of this "not photorealistic" arts.. Anybody can help?

I have found only one example (realsoft v 5!) in the rs folder how it's possible to make it, but I haven't still understood how to manage it to build own outline rendering or materials ;-)

best wishes, more will come, bye, Frankolino from sun shining germany, have all a good week end :-)

ps: so far as I can remember there was a little plugin to make outline rendering or a script... but where? I am working with my old laptop there isn't any example for it, unfortunately
