UV unwrap can be explained like how a world map works. Think about a globe
that has to be turned into a flat map.

If this glob is made out of quadrangular faces you could take each face and
lay it down on a flat surface (an image). These faces are separate from the
3D shape, that's why they're called UV faces.

The trick with unwrapping is to do this in a way that the UV faces don't get
deformed too much but still form islands that make it easy to create a
continuing texture.

Think about how a tailor creates a jacket.  It's rather impossible to create
a jacket from one single piece of cloth. So each part (like the sleeves) are
created from separate pieces and then sewn together.

I don't know, how much experience do

have with UVs, that makes it not easy to explain

UVs behaviour.
