Olaf,
Where do you store your news, projects and galeries?
A very brief description of how to do this:
- Create a query which will return the news ordered by date ascending
- Do the same for your projects
- Display the first news
- Do the same for the first project
You can do all of this with the <cms:query /> tag without writing one
single line of code. For the random galleries, it's a bit more
complicated. You can get all galleries with a query, but then you'll
need some code to pick 8 random galleries from the list.
I don't have the time to do a step-by-step guide for all of this, but
if you can tell us, which step you are having troubles with, we can
try to help you there.

Hello,
i have a specific case, and i was wondering what would be the best
way to implement this in Magnolia 4.x?
We have a website that has news-items, and that has projects. A
project has several properties that are much like a regular news-
item, but with the optional addition of a youtube movie, and it can
be linked to an media gallery. The media galleries are managed
seperate from the projects, they have a title, description, cover-
image, and of course media (which can be a mix of images and video).
There is an overview page for all the media galleries, and there is
an overview page for all the projects. The media gallery overview
page show all the cover images and titles of all the media
galleries, in descending publish data order. The projects page show
the title, and introduction text with a read more link in descending
publish date order.
An editor can assign a specific media gallery to a project (in the
project properties) and if a project has an assigned media gallery
it will show up in the project page.
On the homepage there is a footer which will show the latest news
item with a title, intro, and read more link, and the latest project
with a title, intro and read more link. If there is no project
available, it will show a second news item there.
On the homepage we also want to show a random mix of 8 cover images
from the media galleries, which link directly to the corresponding
media gallery.
I think this case has a lot of things that come up often in website
projects, so it's interesting to see what the best way is to handle
this in Magnolia.
Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated, this will really help
in our evaluationprocess.
We've received some pointers to source code of modules etc. but i'm
not a star in reverse engineering, though i can read the code. I
guess a step-by-step guide on how to do these things, how to program
them, how to compile and deploy them, for a real life situation,
would be very helpfull.
cheers, Olaf
