Hi Olav, I think you are talking about 2 different things. The PHP processor will only run on an Apache server, but Magnolia needs a Tomcat or another application container.
Your approach would usually be a configuration with an Apache server, which is able to serve static files (html, images, flash, css etc etc) and can process php files. In addition, you need to configure a proxy (forwarding) or an AJP13 connector (in your Apache configuration). Both can "listen" on a defined path, for example "www.yourdomain.tld/application". This proxy or connector must be configured to forward requests on this path to your application server (for example, one or more Tomcat instance(s)). Your application server can run on the same machine or different machines, depending on the load you expect. And here you can install your Magnolia CMS.
