We have a few Magnolia instances on Ubuntu. They are all pretty plain vanilla 
Magnolias (3.0.x - 4.2.3), only one has a BDB instead of Derby. I remember 
vaguely that we had to adjust... I think... the max number of open files limit. 
But other than that, Magnolia runs just fine on Ubuntu.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with the details. So, for what it's worth, this 
is just a confirmation that it actually does work.
