Thanks very much for investing so much time in this. 

The structure is about the same except that my "main nodes" have a few sub 
nodes and quite a few node datas. But the numbers are not that scary:
- approx. 1800 "main nodes"
- approx. 12000 total nodes (main nodes, sub nodes, meta data nodes)
- no binaries at all

We wanted to switch to an external db for quite some time now but have not 
found the time to do so. In addition for development using the derby db is very 
comfortable of course.

To let you reproduce the behavior, I could send you an export of the data if 
you like. But I guess that's probably asked a bit too much...
