Forgot to mention, the error with the parameters you get, is because
in the template are defined two parameters user and path, you have to
send the values in the box provided for parameters as user=value
path=value, thats for velocity and freemarker.
But as I said, there will be some documentation soon.

Hi,
You are right there is no useful documentation for this module,
also, seems that old samples have not been removed

Dear Magnolians
I'm a bit frustrated with the available documentation on the mail
module.
We've been sending mails from Magnolia for quite some time now but
did most of the work at a low level, i.e. lots of code instead of
making use of the nice features the mail module is claiming to
have. Now I wanted to have a closer look at the mail module to do
it "the proper Magnolia way". Unfortunately the documentation is...
well, "thin" would probably be and understatement - or am I missing
something?
Could someone more experienced than me help me get started? Below
you can see where I looked for info so far... and it would be so
nice not to have to dig through 1000s of lines of source code just
to figure out how the mail templates really work.
Thanks!
- will
Where I looked for info and what I've tried so far:
- Descibes how to install
- Describes setup
- Even describes how to uninstall
- Points to "Tools" > "Mail" page with zero additional info
- "Tools" > "Mail"
- "Text message configuration" worked
- "Template message configuration"
- Template "test-magnolia-no-parameter"
- Failed with error message: Error on line 1: The element type
"HR" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".
- Where is that referenced template that the system is claiming
to retrieve from "magnolia:http://localhost:8080/magnoliaAuthor/mails/noparam.html
"?!
- Template "test-magnolia-with-parameter"
- Failed with error message: Error on line 1: The element type
"HR" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "".
- Again: Where can I find the template?
This two templates come from 3.6.6 sample, should be removed from
this version. Error is because it does not find anything. You can
create the pages directly in the mentioned path. (http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-3221
they will be removed)
- Template "testVelocity"
- Failed with error message "Could not send email:file:/Users/
will/Documents/Work/Java/Tomcat/apache-tomcat-5.5.26/webapps/
magnolia423/WEB-INF/lib/magnolia-module-mail-4.2.3.jar!/
testVelocity.html (No such file or directory)"
It is loading the file from the web-inf/classes, you can change the
path in the template configuration
- Template "testFreemarker"
- Failed with error message "Error: Expression user is undefined
on line 1, column 7 in testFreemarker.html." (apparently the
instruction "${user}" is causing the trouble)
- Again: Where is the template file? Where do I have to place my
template file in order for it to be found by the mail module?
in this case loads the file from the resources path either in the
jar or web-inf classes.
- "Html page configuration"
- Failed with "Error:
null" (info.magnolia.module.mail.commands.MailCommand : Could
not send email:null)
In this case you have to select a page, there is a bug when
processing images http://jira.magnolia-cms.com/browse/MAGNOLIA-3220
- http://dev.magnolia-cms.com/ref/4.2.3/apidocs/
- Virtually no javadoc explaining how to use the module
- http://wiki.magnolia-cms.com/
- A nice concept page for the magnolia module in Mag 4, but other
than that... nothing
- searching the mailing list archive for "magnolia-module-mail" did
not return anything useful
- Googling for "magnolia-module-mail" did not return anything
useful either
We will complete the documentation shortly, thanks for pointing it
out.
