I think Maven is awesome and although I'm indeed working with a team with a local Nexus repository and a Jenkins instance for continuous integration I also use maven for personal solo projects. But sure, use Ant if that works better for you. My main point was not advertising Maven, but making sure you weren't building Maven yourself (which only makes sense if you're working on improving Magnolia itself).
