ah I see, this is probably what's meant with "multi site support". I understood 
this a bit different, but now it's clear. Thanks for the pointer ;-).

hm... do you have a guess what might be wrong? The public instance's Tomcat has 
one webapp "magnoliaPublic" deployed. In its 
config/default/magnolia.properties, I left this property... 
magnolia.repositories.jackrabbit.config=WEB-INF/config/repo-conf/jackrabbit-bundle-derby-search.xml
... but in config/magnoliaPublic/mangolia.properties I explicitely set

magnolia.bootstrap.authorInstance=false
magnolia.repositories.jackrabbit.config=WEB-INF/config/repo-conf/jackrabbit-bundle-mysql-public.xml
# Note that the last property points to the mysql config

So this should overwrite the default values, right?
Any hints for why my configuration might be wrong?
