I think this is just another representation of same error you got when trying to activate. For whatever reason Magnolia/JackRabbit is unable to build path to the node. I really think that your dms workspace was corrupted. What does your installation look like? What DB are you using? Was there any crash or OOME on your author instance in the past? Or any other exceptional event that could explain why/when dms workspace got corrupted?
