More annotations:

When we were debugging this with our hosting partner, he was monitoring the
traffic and told us that he could see bursts and brakes and bursts and brakes.
I now did the same thing on the client and can confirm this:

And this happens for IE as well as for Firefox, for Windows 7 as well as for
XP, when uploading to Magnolia 4.5.9 as well as to 4.4.x or even DropBox => So
this seems to be a VM problem. 2 "BUTs" however:

"BUT" 1: Apparently the upload target deal with this situation differently (see
original post with the various test cases).
"BUT" 2: Our customers are NOT using VMs and are still facing this problem...?
So I guess what I'm seeing on the VM is "same, same, but different"?

As for the VM I managed to "fix" it with by modifying the TCP settings as
"cheoppy" describes it in his comment #6 on a VirtualBox ticket [1]. Don't ask
me what changing the TCP receive space from 64K to 1024K could do and I'm still
seeing bursts and pauses, but the upload is much quicker and works now also on
bigger files (tested 8MB).

Any ideas anyone?
