Yeah, I guess some people replying in this thread don't realize what Plesk is and that it comes with Apache httpd running on port 80. If you redirect port 80 to Tomcat at the firewall level (iptables) then no traffic to port 80 will reach Apache httpd anymore. I hope you're not dealing with a production server with important sites here. > How do you suggest i set the server up then? just with centos insatlled? That all depends on what your requirements are. If you want to use Plesk, then use Plesk. If not, don't. If you have an existing Plesk installation with sites and you want them to keep functioning, then by all means stick with it. But then you'll also need to know how to work within the Plesk realm when doing custom stuff. For instance see the Plesk documentation on how to add custom Apache configuration. People that haven't worked with Plesk will probably give you advice that may not work on a server with Plesk, or even break existing functionality as you discovered when applying that iptables redirect rule. I'd focus on getting mod_jk configured in Apache and configuring a vhost in Plesk to use it. You might be able to do this with Plesk's Tomcat plugin (I have no experience with it, I don't even know whether it uses mod_jk, mod_ajp or mod_proxy in Apache httpd) or you might be able to do this yourself using custom Apache vhost configuration in Plesk. It sounds like you could benefit from the help of a sysadmin who has done this before. Questions about getting a Java web application on Tomcat to work on a Plesk server might be better suite for a Plesk/Tomcat mailinglist or forum by the way. > Would Varnish work? > http://geroldm.com/2013/05/install-varnish-on-plesk-11-server/ Adding Varnish as another HTTP proxy (Apache and Plesk's optional nginx both can act as HTTP proxies as well) sounds like complicating the server setup even further to me.
