Hi Will, Your approach was correct. You can configure a chooseDialog for a content app if you need.
I reproduced your steps and configured a chooseDialog in the Contacts app. I added the default commit and cancel actions but changed the commit action label to "Choose me!". Magnolia accepted my action definition since it rendered the custom button label correctly. But as you discovered, it ignored my availability configuration. It looks like action availability simply does not apply to the chooseDialog actions.
