As a system integrator and consultant, I think that this feature is very
essential for customers. Storage requirements would increase
dramatically if administrators do not have the proper tools to control
excessive use of versioning.
Any plans to integrate that in the system?

Not without doing tricks (I mean implementing it doing a sequential
feed). Having the API (public) one should be able to do that.
There may be features to handle version stores in some jcr containers
(perhaps CRX). But I don't think so.
