Now you should ask yourself what is the main reason why you want to
become a committer ;-). Cause you really don't need this to be able to
write some modules.
agreed, not for modules, but for core functionality
If you company is gonna go Magnolia way and allow you to work on
Magnolia and you see this as a contribution back to the product
bringing money to your company than this is cool.
I guess also if it doesn't bring back money, because money might not be
the only incentive
But in this case, maybe it is better for your company to consider
becoming a Magnolia partner.

But on the other hand I made some experience with Sun Certified Java
Developers, so I won't "rant" any further, especially since I don't
know the quality of the magnolia certified partner program. So please
don't take my word as criticism, but as an encouragement to question
stuff and
get an own opinion
