Hi Lee ...

There seemed to be two separate issues.

Background - the files I tested on the new Win7 install in the Dell e6400
were very old. But they image/d perfectly in XP which I run on other
machines. Note: I have never run XP on the Dell and get BSOD the minute the
XP installation shifts from the blue DOS type install pieces to "Now
Opening Windows".

At the install of RS v7.145 (and V7.1 by itself), Win7 threw up a
"Compatibility" dialogue box saying the installation had not been complete.
I ran the Windows compatibility path but nothing improved noticeably.

I briefly started a test project and everything seemed fine. I might not
have tried raytrace.

The old files and it may not have been restricted to them, failed at
raytrace of the viewport. Application crash. I try a render and that fails
except for some objects - the rest just dont show to the camera. I try a
new small test project again and it still crashes for the viewport raytrace
(not OpenGL which seems perfectly Ok) but all renders well. All objects in
the new project.

I tweak the nVidia graphics card data only to find most of my changes are
then reset to the default. At this point raytrace doesnt crash the app for
viewport render but render (at several render settings tests) fails to show
all objects.

On the assumption that the old file is somehow incompatible with the new
graphics engine I open a new blank project and copy all objects and
materials into it (these are all that I need for the task). Perfect - all
raytrace renders well in the viewport and all renders well for JPG and BMP
output.

Note: The Dell is second hand and I am now and then seeing a Shell fault in
the video display that is instantly recovered from by Windows. So ... it's
possibly just this machine.

That's how to cut a short story long! Might have a coffee now!

N.
:-)
