I struggled with R8 and zbrush while exporting material groups into zbrush. For now it works only with OBJ-export.
In R8 add materials you want to be polygroup in Zbrush into object in face selection mode. Every selection should have its own material. It doesn't matter what material it is. Just drop material into face selection. No need for uv's now.
In Zbrush check Preferences-->ImportExport-->Import, and check that "Import mat as polygroup" is checked. And now when you import from R8 obj into Zbrush you have a different polygroups for each mat you picked in R8.
It imports several objects into one object, but you can split polygroups into their own subtools from Split-->Groups split.
For now importing back into Realsoft I have a broken uv islands. Lets hope that there will be some kind of fix later on.
