I had a problems with apt-get doing segfaults and they were caused by corrupted cache files. Maybe it's same with you. You could try removing /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin and /var/cache/apt/srcpkgcache.bin and then running apt-get update. I hope this helps you.
